Updates from the Blankie Mound

A few Addra moments for your reading pleasure:

Here’s Addra sitting inside of a cardboard box, repeating “more blankies” (which is awesome because she says “blankies” like “bloodies”) over and over until we stacked just about every small blanket that we own on top of her. She was still asking for more. You remember that guy in The Crucible, Giles Corey, who was getting pressed to death and kept on saying “more rocks”? That’s what she reminded me of (without the gruesome horribleness).

Her marshmallow snowsuit. Adorable, n’est-ce pas?

 

No picture for this one, but this morning, after a bunch of waking and frustration that has nothing to do with this story, she settled back to sleep. Then about fifteen minutes later she started crying and whimpering again. I went to her, and she’d started getting out of bed. She saw me and said, “Meow?”

“Do you need a cat to snuggle with?”

Pathetically: “Uh-huh.”

“Okay, you crawl back in bed and I’ll get you a kitty.”

I found a stuffed animal cat and brought it over to her bed. By the time I got back, she was already asleep again. Apparently just the promise of a cat was enough to set her mind at ease.

First thing in the morning, when she came into my room after she woke up, she was carrying a different kitty. This kitty has been well-loved recently, and it had to come to church with her. Then, when she didn’t want to detach herself from Brice to go to nursery (a fun place where the children ages 1.5–3 get to play for two hours!), he suggested that maybe her kitty wanted to go meet all the other toys there. Immediately, without any more nudging required, she happily headed off to nursery to help her kitten make friends.
